Say goodbye to the 'S.S. Shelter Bay'

Goderich CAO Larry McCabe says that the Marine Museum is owned by the town, but was operated by the county until recently and due to declining attendance and significant maintenance costs, in addition to the lead paint and abestos that were found to be present by a hazardous materials study, the Museum is being demolished this week.

The museum brought in a revenue of less than $500 last year, and would have cost a substantial amount to bring up-to-code.

McCabe says the cost will be around to remove the structure will be close to $60,000 which will be paid by the town.

Currently there is no confirmation on what will replace the structure, but a land exchange with a local business owner has been discussed.

Many plans for the area are detailed in the parks master plan as well.
