THE PRIDE FLAG MAY FLY OVER SAUGEEN SHORES IN JUNE

The Pride Flag could fly in Saugeen Shores this year.

Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau tabled a Notice of Motion on Monday February 12th, which if approved, would see council install a flag on municipal property to show support for the week of inclusiveness for members of the LGBTQ+ community that is celebrated around the world during the first week of June.

Charbonneau says that it's high time that the town recognizes the LGBTQ+ community and makes it clear that they are an open and welcoming community to them and everybody else.

After being asked by numerous area residents why the municipality had never flown the pride flag in the past, he said he could come up with no good answer, and says he is happy to endorse the initiative.

Charbonneau's motion will be debated by Saugeen Shores council during their next meeting in two week's time.
