CARFENTANIL MAY BE CIRCULATING IN HURON COUNTY
3/14/2018 6:28:04 AM

The Huron County Health Unit strongly believes that the opioid carfentanil is in Huron County based on community-acquired data.

The drug is derived from Fentanyl but is 100 times more powerful, and 10 thousand times more powerful than morphine.

Just a small amount can be fatal to humans as the drug is intended to be used as a tranquilizer for large animals.

A big problem with the drugs fentanyl or carfentanil, is you can't see, taste, or smell them.

The Health Unit has some tips for those using drugs in Huron County: do not use drugs alone, don't mix drugs together, carry a naloxone kit which is available at the Health Unit, know the signs of an overdose, and call 9-1-1 if you suspect an overdose.

The Health Unit also wants to remind everyone of the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act which provides legal protection for people who experience an overdose and call 9-1-1, witness an overdose and call 9-1-1 or attempt to help someone suffering from an overdose.
