The Grey Bruce Health Services is asking Bruce County Council for a donation to put towards purchasing a new MRI machine.
GBHS has one of the oldest operating MRI's in Canada at 14 years, which makes it difficult to get parts for it.
They've asked for $400,000 spread over two years to help with costs, as GBHS has esitmated they need 4.7 million dollars to buy a new machine that they hope to have operational by next spring.
They say the MRI machine is used, on average, 11,000 times a year at the Owen Sound hospital, and a new machine means they will be able tio accomodate more people.
Currently, larger patients who simply do not fit into the old MRI have to be sent to London for service, which can be a great inconvenience.
No commitment has been made by Bruce County, but it will likely come up at budget talks that will begin in the next few months.
