The United Way of Perth-Huron has unveiled the living wage numbers for the region.
Executive Director of the Perth-Huron United Way Ryan Erb says the living wage is $17.44 an hour and that doesn't include many luxuries.

Erb says half the community is living under the living wage so the United Way is encouraging businesses to become living wage champions.
He says research shows that paying employees a living wage is beneficial for business as it increases productivity and loyalty while reducing absentees.
Erb adds that unless people can afford to pay hydro bills and still eat healthily then we have a critical problem in our community.
