Local MPPs Bill Walker (Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound) and Lisa Thompson (Huron-Bruce) announced the government is moving forward with plans to build six new hospice beds in the south end of Bruce-Grey.
Walker says he’s proud the government is trying to improve access to comfortable, end of life care because everyone deserves dignified care that respects them and their families.
Thompson added many dedicated volunteers in the area have worked hard to make this happen, and it’s because of their leadership and commitment that this announcement could be made.
Executive director of the Residential Hospice Grey-Bruce, Alex Hector, says this announcement enables them to move forward on raising the community portion of funding that will establish a satellite hospice location in the south part of our region.
Hospices provide patients with palliative care in a comfortable space, where they can be close to loved ones. Hospice care focuses on relieving suffering and providing services like psychological, spiritual and bereavement support.
