Goderich has become the most recent municipality to opt “in” for a retail cannabis store.
The vote came down to 5 “yay’s”, and one “nay”, which came from councilor Jim Donnelly, saying he is unalterably opposed to a retailer.
Councilor Trevor Bazinet believes Goderich “can’t afford to say no”.
Councilor Stephen Tamming adds that customers are already receiving medicinal marijuana at their homes through mail and courier services.
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario says the AGCO is taking a phased-in approach to cannabis sales, because of a province-wide shortage of the product grown in approved locations.
The province anticipates legalized marijuana sales to start by April 1st.
